T.P.O.s and The Town & Country Planning Act

The Town & Country Planning Act 1990 includes one of the most significant pieces of legislation to affect tree work. This includes Tree Preservation Orders (T.P.O.s) and the Town & Country Planning (Trees) Regulations which impose statutory controls on tree work in Conservation Areas.

These Acts stipulate that consent must be granted by the planning authority or a Notice of Intention must be served on the authority before work is carried out to a protected tree. Planning authorities require all tree work to be carried out according to best practice, meeting the British Standard ‘Recommendations for Tree Work’ B.S. 3998:2010.

The Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981

This act affords protection to nesting birds and roosting bats. All tree works that we carry out are done so within the stipulations of this act.

Our company has undertaken wildlife & bat awareness courses as part of our commitment to meeting all legislative requirements.

Felling Licenses (England)

To protect Britain's forests, a felling license must be obtained from the Forestry Commission before carrying out any felling (unless the trees are under exemption). It is an offence to fell trees without a license if an exemption does not apply. We can advise and apply for the correct licence on your behalf.

Sites Of Special Scientific Interest (SSSSI)

SSSIs (or ASSIs in Northern Ireland) are designated throughout the UK by the Statutory Nature Conservation Organisation (SNCO). Each SSSI will have a management plan and a list of operations, with consent being required by the SNCO before any tree works are carried out.
